Journal of Clinical Nursing Research presents original, peer-reviewed research findings obviously and directly for clinical discovery in all nursing specialties. There is thus a need to develop concepts in Norwegian which communicate the content of compassionate care in the community of practice in Norway. Clinical teachers’ impact on students’ learning processes is also reported by Saarikoski et al. [24] who suggested that Finnish students’ positive evaluation of clinical learning environments compared to nursing students in the UK was related to the clinical teachers’ presence and their way of focusing on learning activities at the wards. The Nordic Journal of Nursing Research (NJNR) is an international, peer-reviewed scientific journal which aims to provide a forum for advancing the knowledge in the broader field of nursing and midwifery. Norway has an increasing need for nurses, and nurses educated in non‐EU countries are an important resource for the Norwegian health service. Philippine nurses compose the largest group of internationally educated nurses from outside the EU, but their Philippine nursing education is only credited as equivalent to 2 years in Norway. In the Norwegian bachelor of nursing, students are assigned to clinical placements for 42% of the total education time. Five placement areas are obligatory: surgical nursing, medical nursing, mental health care, home care and nursing homes. A total of 511 nursing students completed a Norwegian version of the questionnaire, Clinical Learning Environment, Supervision and Nurse Teacher (CLES+T) evaluation scale in 2009. Data including descriptive statistics were analysed using the Statistical Program for the Social Sciences.
